Application Process

Go to the application homepage. You will first be prompted to create a username, confirm your email address, then create a password. Once these steps are completed, you will be able to log in and start a new application. Even if you are a current GW or Elliott student, you must apply to the program through this portal (If you are a current student , you should be able to login and look to the bottom right for 'start new application'). On the first page of the application, choose the following in order to apply for U.S. Foreign Policy Summer Program (each field must be selected before the following fields options will populate):

  • What type of program are you applying to? Non-Degree
  • School: Summer & Non-Degree Programs
  • Field of Study: U.S. Foreign Policy in a Global Era
  • Degree: Non-Degree
  • Concentration: Not Applicable
  • Term: Summer 2018

Please be advised that academic success in the program requires a high level of English language proficiency in reading, writing and speaking. To demonstrate this proficiency, non-native English speakers must provide TOEFL or IELTS scores at the time of the application. The minimum scores required are:

  • TOEFL: 100 internet/ 250 computer/ 600 paper-based
  • IELTS: 7.0 overall band score. No individual band score below 6.0
  • Coursework: If you have studied in the U.S. during the past year, a 3.0 GPA and a writing class is sufficient proof of English proficiency

Admission to the program is competitive. The U.S. Foreign Policy Summer Director will review all applications. Admitted participants will be required to provide a $500 (USD) deposit to confirm participation.

All accepted participants are admitted for visiting, non-degree status at The George Washington University.
